World Information: The world of TPN is fucked up. A thousand years ago, a promise was made that humans and 'demons' would live separately, with the caveat that a group of humans would be left behind to form the basis for human farms to feed the demons. In the current day, demons maintain various farms where children are raised as food, with both 'premium farms' that disguise themselves as orphanages to the children who live there, and factory farms that exist to raise up 'lower grade' children. The series is also set somewhat in the future, with the story events set in the 2040s.
Personal History: Here, note that only the manga version of his page is being used.
Personality:
"There's no way Norman would make up this stupid of a lie. He's not you, Emma."
On the surface, Ray appears to be a fairly quiet kid. He tends to read during free time rather than play in the woods surrounding Grace Field House, he has snarky tendencies (particularly towards Emma), and he's one of the three kids who routinely pull perfect scores during the daily tests, alongside Norman and Emma.
But of course, underneath that is layers of Trauma and the ways that trauma influenced his personality.
Ray is quite pragmatic for a twelve year old, displaying a willingness to become a mole for Isabella at the age of six in exchange for rewards in order to see what could be obtained from outside and get supplies to create a tracker disabler, purposefully studying to obtain perfect test scores despite not enjoying the studying in order to increase his own value as high as possible, and vocally believing that the majority of the kids at Grace Field House would be dead weight in an escape attempt, aside from Emma, Norman, and maybe Don and Gilda. He was also willing to test his attempts at creating said tracker disabler on some of the other kids to see if it would work, despite the implication that at least some of those kids may have been shipped out early as a result.
He's shown to be willing to do anything to guarantee that his friends Emma and Norman would be able to escape, including using his mole activities to try and have some control over Isabella's actions and only agreeing to help Norman and Emma's plan if Norman would agree to trick Emma into leaving most of the kids behind. He's also somewhat manipulative, purposefully making sure Emma and Norman would go to the gate the night of a shipment and find out the truth. The downside of this focus on making sure his friends escape is that he's shown to become upset when Emma insists on saving everyone, viewing this as a threat to his six years of planning up to this point, and that he had given up on escaping himself, instead planning to set himself on fire to create a distraction for the escape. This suicide plan was in place for a while too, made as a way to distract Isabella and as a final retaliation against the system that had expected to finally harvest him on his twelfth birthday.
"All of this, to make sure you both didn't get killed."
But greater than these weaknesses is the fact that Ray tends to give up quickly if things go wrong. He's quick to give up on most of the kids, dismissing them as dead weight, he's quick to (initially) give up on his plans when Norman gets abruptly shipped out and presumably killed by demons, and he's quick to give up on seeking a better future for himself, instead planning to sacrifice himself to guarantee an escape. In fact, it's only Emma's interference on the night of the escape that keeps Ray from actually killing himself and gets him to join the rest of the kids.
"Don't think you can serve me. Food? Merchandise? I don't give a crap! I'm a human being! Serves them right!"
It's also implied that he feels some degree of guilt for having to watch so many other kids get shipped out over his life without being able to help them, thus further influencing his actions. Thankfully, Ray begins to finally believe in a better future for himself after successfully escaping, and even begins to believe that the bulk of the kids aren't actually dead weight as he sees the final plan go into action. This might have led to some nice character development...
...If he hadn't gotten trainnapped shortly after the successful escape, trapping him all over again.
Key themes: Self sacrifice for others, not giving up hope
Main Motivation: Previously it was to make sure Emma and Norman escaped Grace Field House, but since the escape happened his goal shifted to making sure the escapees remain safe and evading capture.
Skills:
-Intelligence: Ray is one of the three most intelligent children at Grace Field House, alongside Norman and Emma. He routinely pulls perfect scores in the daily tests and is shown to be quite cunning, having managed to figure out the truth of Grace Field House at a young age and offering himself as a mole for Isabella to make sure he wouldn't be shipped out as long as possible. He was also able to figure out how to disable the trackers implanted in the children's ears using items given to him as rewards for his spying.
Related to this is the fact that Ray did not develop infantile amnesia, meaning he has memories dating back to when he was still in the womb. This helped him figure out that Isabella was his mother and the truth behind Grace Field House.
-Cunning: Ray is shown to be quite cunning, offering himself as a mole for Isabella at the age of six and feeding her just enough info to earn himself rewards and secure his safety from being shipped out. He also purposefully plants Conny's stuffed rabbit where Emma would be likely to find it the night Conny was shipped out, knowing that Emma and Norman would try to catch Conny at the gate and find out the truth. After joining the escape planning with Emma and Norman, he continues to feed just enough info to Isabella to try and control both sides so that that his friends would be able to escape while still keeping Isabella happy.
-Mechanics: Ray was able to build a device to disable the trackers implanted in the children's ears on his own, using the rewards supplied to him by Isabella. He apparently also enjoys taking apart machines like clocks.
Item: The tracker disabling device that he made.
Sample: Here and here
Notes: The day that the train grabs Ray from is actually his twelfth birthday. Happy birthday, Ray?
Additionally, Ray has also just had a tracker chip cut out of the back of his ear earlier that day, and will show up with a large bandage over his injured ear.
